Yesterday my iPhone 4S arrived and while there’s a huge amount I can write about it boils down to two major things for me: Siri & the camera.
My 4 is by no means sluggish. In fact my iPhone 4 is probably still in no need to be replaced. It’s fast, impressive and does everything I need it to do when I need it to.
However the 4S adds a little flare to the roster of amazing things the 4 can do, which is something I’m very happy about. The dual-core processor screams through app tasks. Even the little things like email or twitter load and are usable much quicker than they would be on the 4. Again, the 4 does these things remarkably well anyway!
Where it really comes into its own is the camera. As you can see from my widget (on the right hand side of the site, for those using RSS readers) I use instagram almost daily. Having an 8MP camera is great. 8MP means I can take a sneaky shot from far away and zoom in to still get a clear image. It also means that I can take quick snaps easily without waiting for the camera app to catch up, which happens quite a bit on the 4. The time between taking one photo to the next is also drastically improved with the new processor.
Siri, on the other hand, is great fun. I drained my battery from full to zero in a few hours just playing with Siri and showing it off to others. The ease of use, general functionality and fun to be had makes it the perfect iPhone accoutrement. But then I had a moment. Siri reminded me that I can use the functions when the phone is on by just bringing it to my ear as if I were making a call. So, walking down the street I was able to tell Siri to send a text message. This is important because in the rain the phone isn’t being bashed by water when I’m sending a text because it’s discretely hidden under my hood!
I know this is a quick-snap review of only two bits of the 4S but it’s really all I cared about with this device.
